The next morning...

Ok, lesson number one... Use Pam to cut these guys! You have to spread it all over the knife for each cut of your ruin the design on top! I am sending samples with Brian to work today to see what the guys think...they are always my biggest critics!

Christmas Candy Making has begun

I planned on making christmas goodies for everyone this year and wanted to try candy making. I have failed at fudge twice now and finally had a success with peppermint marshmallows! They need to sit overnight and then get cut up... I think they will be great for hot chocolate!

More Halloween Treats

I know I did the Halloween Cookies already but couldn't help myself... I made cupcakes and pumpkin cookies. I had a limited amount of time this afternoon and too much to do so I wasn't able to make it to everyone's place... however, if you didn't get yours, there is a plate at Julie's waiting for you! I kept the cupcakes simple, with Candy Corn colors and decorations.

Delicious Pumpkin Cookies with Brown Butter Icing by Martha Stewart... so worth it! Yumm... here is the link to the recipe on her website!

New measuring cups!

Here are my new measuring cups and spoons that I got at Williams-Sonoma! I love them, I have lots of measuring cups for 1 cup, 2 cups and 4 cups... but.... these are for 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup and 1 cup (I already have 2 sets of measuring spoons, but I think you can never have enough of these)

A very quick visit to Williams-Sonoma

I read a lot of baking blogs... most of which are US based. I hear so much about Williams Sonoma and figured I had to check it out for myself. Since I was in California, and remembered totally last minute, I only had 15 minutes in the store on my way to the airport. I went to the one in downtown Walnut Creek and wow was it ever neat... I did make some purchases... :)

Halloween Cookies! Yummy....

I finished the Halloween cookies tonight! They were so much work, but so fun to make! They just have to dry over night and then I will package them and deliver them to the lucky kids this weekend!

Yes... half of the bat is missing! I know I am watching my sugar, but it couldn't be helped!!!! Aren't I supposed to test my baking? :)

Yesterday on Lunch

Luckily for me, I get to come home on lunch! So yesterday I started the flood icing with the pumpkin faces on my break!! Again, did I mention patience? You have to have it so the colors don't bleed into one another. Later in the evening I filled the ghosts, the orange of the pumpkins and left the bats (they require a lot more work).

Halloween Is Almost Here!

So... I know cupcakes are my thing, but... I must admit, I am branching out lately with my interests. There are so many cool things you can do with sugar cookies and royal icing! I figured that Halloween is the perfect time to start playing with this a little more! I have spent the last 4 hours making, rolling, cutting, baking and outlining the cookies. Through lots of reading about this kind of stuff, patience is very important. When dealing with the black royal icing, its really important that it dries thoroughly otherwise it may bleed into other colors. Even though I am dying to do more... I will wait until tomorrow to start the next part! More pictures to come....

Gay Pride Cupcakes

I was supposed to make these rainbow cupcakes for my gay coworkers on August 1st but I have been very wrapped up in leaving the garden centre and starting my new job! Finally I had a chance last night to make these super fun cupcakes!
I made a white cake mix up and divided into 6 bowls to make the colors... then I put all the colors in icing bags (I have found that tall glasses make awesome icing bag holders). I then layered the colors rainbow like in the cupcake liners and baked them.

They actually baked in a rainbow shape, I was so thrilled... these ones I started with the red on the bottom and purple on top....

These I started with the purple on the bottom and ended with the red on top...

I forgot to take a picture of the end result, I put a swirl of white butter cream icing and ALOT of glitter. My coworkers were sooo thrilled over these cupcakes. As they each came into the office to tell me how much they loved the rainbow with the sparkle flair on top, I had to laugh as all their chins were sparkling!
